The main goal is to stay alive for 5 turns. A lot happens during a turn: the kaiju choose a target for attack (your robots or buildings, the protection of which is a priority), after that there is an encirclement move, then mechs move, which can choose an attack or action, after which the enemies attack according to the planned targets, after which they appear new enemies. Therefore, you have to use your brains to come up with battle tactics and choose the right robots. The cards in Into the Breach are miniature, the squad is placed on a field of 8x8 cells, and only three fighters on one card can be selected. Capsules with pleasant bonuses may also arrive from the future. One of the features of the game is time management, which allows, after a defeat, one fighter to go with new robots to the past in order to win. Enemies can be pushed against each other, thrown off a cliff or into the water, substituted for blows. Positioning is central to the Into the Breach strategy. Purpose of the game: In five turns, prevent your three battle mechs from being destroyed and save the buildings in which civilians are hiding from destruction.

The plot is quite simple: the invaders - insect-like kaiju monsters - attacked the Earth, and players must travel back in time to confront them and turn the outcome of the war on their side.
